ZTE Acqua V880E Review Part 1

So you wanted to get a cheap and cheerful Android smartphone without robbing your local bank ?  Well – that is good news as I would be reviewing ZTE Acqua
The review will be broken into several parts as like always (much like any other reviews such as my iPhone 4 and my Philips Shaver Review) . In this part , I’ll be looking into the packaging and the phone itself (i.e the looks and how it feels) and not to mention , I would take time to explain some features of the phone. Basically , we would be having a closer look
(more after the jump)

ZTE ? What ? Who ?

I am quite sure many of you have heard of SAMSUNG ? HTC ? SONY ? But what about ZTE ? For most people what it comes to mind is that “it is much like those other China-Brands”. Poof , you are sort of right in sense that it is from China but it is not like “other china-made-products”. In fact ZTE is a  multinational telecommunication equipment company. They produce networking-related stuff which is used by Telcos and as well as consumer products like 3G Modems , Broadband Modems and stuff. Oh yes , don’t ever judge book by its cover
Specifications & Price
I am quite sure that I’ll bore you with death when I mention the specifications here. I will split into two parts , the quick-specifications (which discusses about the specification of the phone) and the full-blown specification (in which you can get the technical details)

  • 4-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen
  • Android OS v4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • 1Ghz single core Qualcomm MSM7227A Snapdragon CPU
  • 4 GB storage(2.5GB accessible), supports up to 32 GB microSD, 512 MB RAM
  • 3MP camera autofocus, LED flash, 0.3MP front camera
  • Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi, AGPS/GPS, HSPA(7.2Mbps)
  • Stereo FM radio with RDS
  • 1650mAh battery
  • RM 699 (Suggested Retail Price)
Now for the full blown technical specification , you can have a look by downloading the PDF here (you would get the whole details from camera resolution , radio specification and other goodies)

Who is this phone for ?
It is a very good question. In the current market (as this time of writing) you  have SAMSUNG Galaxy S3/Note II (which has become a flagship phone) and iPhone 5. Two great amazing phones indeed but however there is one thing that gives second doubts to a lot of people especially the working classes and student – the price point. These phones are sold around RM2,000 (International Readers , take note that average salary for Malaysian who have just started working is around RM 2,500) which is very expensive and out of reach for the masses. ZTE comes into play here – they are filling in the gap for students and folks who have started working. It is reasonably priced . Now why do I say this – it is simple – you get a decent specification phone which runs on the latest Android 4.0 system (It would be great if they allowed us to upgrade to 4.2) and it is priced reasonably well. On top of that with the RM 200 smartphone rebate which will take place next year , you can get this phone for RM 499 – a price point which you are unable to resist. It becomes an ideal phone for those who have started working and do not want to spend a tons of money on getting an iPhone 5/Samsung phone.
Unboxing and First Impression
Now traditionally , I would take pictures and give you my in-sight on how I think of this phone. Ever since I did my Philips review , I decided to change around with the format and instead give you with a YouTube video review of unboxing and my first impression. This way you can have a better look of the phone and plus I feel much more connected with my readers this way. Have a look at it

Now in the review I have already have installed the battery , now here is what you generally get inside the box (just in case if you missed the image which I have snapped)  :-

  • ZTE Acqua itself (duh !)
  • Headphones
  • Wall charger
  • USB Cable
  • Getting Started Guide & Warranty Information (Sadly it is only in English , they could have included manual in Bahasa Malaysia (Malay) as well)

What’s Next
In the next part of the review , I’ll be taking a look  on how well the phone performs for social media (let us face it , we would be using most of the time for Facebook/Twitter/Instagram) and not to mention to check out the camera
I would like to say that its not a sponsored post by ZTE Malaysia but more towards my experience with the product itself. The review can be negative or positive as they have spent out that each reviewers have their freedom of expression to express their thoughts. I would like to thank ZTE Malaysia for providing me with a review unit !
