MacOS X 10.6.6 update is out

Apple has released the newest update for OSX , which is MacOS X 10.6.6 and it includes the Mac App Store. If you’re thinking of upgrading your hackint0sh , feel free to follow my simple instructions. I am making it simple. To keep it short , its pretty same as upgrading to 10.6.5 , which I recommend you to read first
Things which have changed in OSX 10.6.6 :-
1. New Mac App Store
2. Improved nvidia drivers ( yes finally my World of Warcraft is pretty smooth on my MacBook Pro) but sadly it breaks compatibility with Fermi
IMPORTANT Notice : Please make sure that you’re downloading the updater from Apple’s site and not via software updater
UPDATE : 10.6.6 kernel is out and updated instructions for AMD/Legacy intel users ! , click here to read about it

(more after the jump)
If your system is vanilla (aka you’ve used nawcom modCD , you’re using Intel Core processors and you’ve upgraded OSX 10.6.x to 10.6.5 without any problems)
The update is very safe. Feel free to install it
If your system is vanilla and you are using NVidia GeForce 4xx series card
You’ll have to re-install your Geforce 4xx drivers
If you’re using legacy kernel + legacy USB drivers (i.e upgraded to 10.6.5 and used a fixed USB driver and a fixed kernel). This is applicable for Intel Atom users as well
Simple reuse your legacy kernel
For VMWare users , please check out nawcom’s blog for details.

  1. Installed 10.6.6 on my P4 hackintosh and it is working wonderfully. Awesome post! Thanks for helping the osx86 community!

  2. Can you help me out with this. I have Core 2 Duo installed with Nawcom ModCD and myHack. I upgraded to 10.6.5 without any problem. I made the mistake of upgrading to 10.6.6 via the Software Update and got a Kernel Panic (version mismatch). I managed to restore from my Time Machine backup to 10.6.5. Will I be able to get it working if I use the downloaded update from Apple?

  3. I can see the update is significantly smaller than the previous one (10.6.5). Is it safe to upgrade directly to 10.6.6 if I have 10.6.3 on a vanilla system?

  4. Hi,
I’ve recently updated from 10.6.4 to .6 directly [to be able to play Angry Birds, shame on me 🙂 ] and I found my Hackintosh a lot slower on anything engaging graphics.
i.e. flash player, dock animations, exposé, etc.
I’m installed OSX with a retail DVD using EFI Empire and multibeast as a post-installation tool. My configuration is a Dell Vostro 1310 notebook with a Core2Duo 2.1GhZ, 3gb or RAM and an Nvidia 8400GS graphics card running thanx to graphisenabler=yes.
Do you have any idea on what could I do to fix it ? (I would hate having to reinstall everything from scratch…)
    Thanks a lot 🙂
    TMG

  5. Question to Mad GreeK: How did yoy config multibeast for DELL Vostro 1310 notebook after instalation with EFI Empire. Thanks
