nawcom ModCD v0.3 is out

Nawcom has updated his modCD again. This time addressing most of the issues which is found in the original post. If you are wondering whats nawCom BootCD basically it makes it even easier to install OSX. There is no more postInstall crap like myHack , multiBoot. This CD will pretty much take care most of the things for you , thus making OSX installation on PCs as easy as possible. For more details on nawcom’s modCD , do check out this post or over at his blog.

Changelog (from the previous version) :-

  • Changed the boot screen
  • Used the kernel blacklist code to disable graphics kexts when using the CD. This way there won’t be issues anymore.
  • Hardware autodetection is now done in rc.cdrom instead of OSInstall.mpkg, so the Install Customize dialog now 1000% faster since theres no conditions to go through for each one.

Automatic On the fly patching - kernel , drivers , etc
Adds custom drivers during installation
Adds custom drivers during installation , so you dont have to do any work !

Please note , its not a distro. It automatically patches your disc on the fly , and includes all these wonderful and simple to use options

Oh yeah , the download link (more mirrors soon) (Mirror 2) (Thanks reuploaded/ Mirror 3)

It simply translates to you’re able to install int variety of hardware and hopefully there shouldn’t be any black screen issues during installation. Again , its a work in progress by nawcom and I’ll be helping him as well. Feel free to post comments and any feedback , as I’ll collect them and discuss with nawcom !

  1. Hi!
First I want to congratulate both Prasys and Nawcom!
I can boot with modcd and reach the install, but when I select the personalize button there is no “CUSTOM OPTIONS – EXPERTS ONLY”
    Am I missing something?
Anyway I could install it with default options. What post install do you recommend?

    Thank you!

  2. Hello everyone, I am having a big… no… ENORMOUS problem here: I am trying to install Mac OS X 10.6.3 on a newly purchased 2TB RAID0 array. The problem is, quite frankly, the fact that this f&(%ing operating system, apparently, has a big problem with SATA drives being set to the RAID mode, and therefore it blocks when I try to start the setup if they are set to this mode. Of course, if I set the SATA mode to AHCI, I can enter the installation and it all works wonderfully, but I can’t install the os on my RAID array anymore.
So, as you probably realized, my question is:(and I am writing it in caps because I am desperate)

Thank you a lot for your time taken to read this. I am truly desperate as I really want to install Mac on that RAID and I’ve tried googeing it and asking on some forums but I had no success. Have a cold glass of beer on me if you can help me solve this problem. (I have also posted this on the main article regarding the launch of nawcom Mod CD)

    Happy Holidays everyone!!

  3. All right, never mind my earlier post. I managed to install mac os x on my other drive, which is a non-raid, by disabling the SATA-as-RAID feature and I am in fact typing this comment from inside mac os right now.
But I have two problems here:
    1) I need a graphics driver that would enable acceleration (I’m stuck with a res of 1024×768); the one included on the cd is apparently of no good.
    My GPU: Nvidia GeForce 9800GT
    My MB: Gigabyte EP35-DS3R

    2) I need support for that blasted raid drive, I expect getting it through a driver of some type.

Thank you kindly and in advance for your extensive help!!

My system is : MB ASUS RAMPAGE II GENE, i7 920 2,67 GHZ, NVIDIA 480 GTX,HDD SAMSUNG 500GB. Thank you in advance and maybe have a solution for my problem and will post here.

  5. HI, Pradeesh! Thanks for everyone who works (hard) for a good Hack. Same problem. My keyboard freezes (can’t type). Empire EFI for “m” series the same problem also (I experimented all EFIs). Just working well Hackboot v5 (installation ok), but there is no bootloaders working (Chamaleon or iHack – just using CD to boot). My PC is a notebook Dell Vostro 3500 – I5 560m – Memory 4GB – Nvidia 310m Hybrid. I’ve bought this machine just to have an excellent Hack. I’ve been waiting for a new release. (Brazil)

  6. Hey,

well I’ve got an AMD Athlon X2 and an ATI Radeon 4000 series so I know I the worsed hardware for this but I saw with Empire EFI that it supports the CPU but may have problems with the ATI and it does … couldn’t even load Empire EFI.
but now with nawcom it starts loading but then it gives me a kernel error message and tells me to contact someone with a photo of the message… I have the photo on my phone(soon on the computer) but anyone who can help me?

    kind regards

  7. I’m trying to install this on my Dell Studio 14z laptop, using nawcom’s BootCD and the Mac OSX 10.6.3 retail DVD. After I swap discs, all i get is a bunch of lines of code, and it seems to hang up with page after page of “disk1s3: media is not present.”

Any ideas? How long should it take to get to the Mac OS X install menu using this BootCD?

  8. Just tried again. It’s telling me right befor that “”disk1s3: media is not present.” error, SerialATAPI device reconfiguration did not complete successfully. (failedCommandInfo = 0x1)
SeerialATAPI Terminating due to unrecoverable Reser error – drive has stopped responding. (resetType = 0x0, newPowerState = 0x1, failedCommandInfo = 0x1)
    disk1s3: I/O error.

    Does this help at all?

  9. Hi,

I try to install Snow Leopard 10.6.3.

But I can’t see my hard drive on hard disk utility on mac os x installer, only my DVDROM is visible.

Why is this happening?Do I missing any steps?

    Thx !

  10. Hey, hope you can help me point me in the right direction
    I have a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5885
    Centrino Core2Duo T5750
    4GB RAM
    Wireless – Intel 3945ABG
Video – Mobile Intel GM965 Express Chipset
I installed using the latest ModCD v0.3.1 and Retail Snow Leopard 10.6.3 DVD.
Install went fine, but I can’t boot from my hard drive. If I boot from the ModCD it sees my HD with the OS X installed and I boot from it, but if I take the CD out I just get black screen and 4 short lines that say no boot device or something to that extent.
Thank you, any help is greatly appreciated!

  16. Install Help Request

Project: Acer Aspire One D255E Atom N550 1.5GHz, 2G ram, Intel GMA 3150
    – Dual boot Win7/Snow Leopard 10.6.1 Retail

Attempting via nawcom’s ModCD v.3, however cannot get to the OSX install screen.

Confirmed that AHCI mode is enabled, nawcom’s cd boots, swap disk, select “Apple HFS”, then panic screen with following msg:
“panic(cpu 0 caller 0x55aa33): “Unable to find driver for this platform: \”ACPI\”.\n”@/Users/nawcom/Builds/xnu-1456.1.26/iokit/Kernal/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1393″

Any suggestions? I have also tried tonymac’s iBoot, and EFI with same result, panic after selecting the Apple HFS disc.
