nawcom ModCD v0.3 is out

Nawcom has updated his modCD again. This time addressing most of the issues which is found in the original post. If you are wondering whats nawCom BootCD basically it makes it even easier to install OSX. There is no more postInstall crap like myHack , multiBoot. This CD will pretty much take care most of the things for you , thus making OSX installation on PCs as easy as possible. For more details on nawcom’s modCD , do check out this post or over at his blog.
Changelog (from the previous version) :-

  • Changed the boot screen
  • Used the kernel blacklist code to disable graphics kexts when using the CD. This way there won’t be issues anymore.
  • Hardware autodetection is now done in rc.cdrom instead of OSInstall.mpkg, so the Install Customize dialog now 1000% faster since theres no conditions to go through for each one.

Automatic On the fly patching - kernel , drivers , etc

Adds custom drivers during installation
Adds custom drivers during installation , so you dont have to do any work !

Please note , its not a distro. It automatically patches your disc on the fly , and includes all these wonderful and simple to use options
Oh yeah , the download link (more mirrors soon) (Mirror 2) (Thanks reuploaded/ Mirror 3)
It simply translates to you’re able to install int variety of hardware and hopefully there shouldn’t be any black screen issues during installation. Again , its a work in progress by nawcom and I’ll be helping him as well. Feel free to post comments and any feedback , as I’ll collect them and discuss with nawcom !

Can you upload it somewhere else ? Like on megaupload ?

Good night! and happy Halloween, and Feliz dia de Muertos! xD

  6. Thanks for your great efforts nawcom! I just started experimenting with installing osx on my pc a few days ago. I recently bought some new hardware which was supposed to work pretty vanilla according feedback on a hackintosh website:
    – Gigabyte GA-P55M-UD2
    – Intel Core I7-870
    – Asus EAH4870/2DVI/1GD5
    – 8GB DDR3
But both EmpireEFI and iBoot refused installing from a genuine retail DVD 10.6.3. I even tried removing 2 memorybanks, repositioning the graphics card to the first slot, disconnecting second monitor, disconnecting my other 3 harddisks and SSD. But none of that got the osx dvd up and running beyond a b/w screen. So I put everything back in its original place.
Then your download came available! Tried it out immediately – without (re)moving any hardware – and for the first time succeeded in installing osx on a empty harddisk on which I created a 150Gb partitition with the osx installer.
I noticed that even the chameleon bootloader is automatically installed! that’s great. When I startup with option -v, after a little while my pc shuts down. The last message I can read is:
Failed to load kext (error 8xdc888888a).
I tried several options suggested by a forum like:
    – busratio=20 cpus=1 acpi=no -v
    – busratio=16 cpus=1 acpi=no -v
But nothing works. PC shuts down all the time on the same spot.
Do you have any ideas or suggestions on that? Thanks!

  7. Hi,
I try to install Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on a notebook Asus x73 (core 2 duo, sata hard drive..)
But with nawcomm boot cd I can’t see my hard drive on hard disk utility on mac os x installer, only my usb key is visible.
I don’t have this problem with Empire EFI boot cd with Snow Leopard 10.6.
Do you have a solution ? I try Myhack 1.1 too with and without IOsata kext but it’s the same problem.
    Thx !

  8. “There is no more postInstall crap like myHack” but on nawcom’s blog, it says Step 3 as “After the installed OS boots up, use the myHack 1.1.4 package on the boot CD”
Was v0.3 updated to make this automated?

  9. Help! ATI HD5450 🙁 >>>> any kext ?

  10. Thank you all for the good work.
Installation works well on a Sony Vaio FE series with 2 issues:
    * VGA output not working (boot from swap disk)
    * how can I boot from hard drive ? (try MultiBeast but have problem with video output – no monitor display)

  11. tred it on my alienware 15″ all goes well until I reboot after automatic myhack is down, then it reboots and doesnt work i booted with -v, but cant see any errors, maybe the last line but it reboots to fast , and is irc room back up, or can someone help me, thanks

  12. ok tried the new bootcd, but it at the apple choose lang which, seems that my kb & touchpad dont work now, maybe becasue I did see it choose ps/2 for the auto detect setup, i cant use a usb mouse but thats not gonna work!!, this is the alienware 15″ HELP!!

  13. yes I know, but why wont the laptop kb/touchpad work now? and no i dont have a extra laying around, but I also dont have room for one either, and rather use my laptops :), so what about the irc room?

  14. Does the Nawcom bootcd take care of dsdt installation. If not, at what point during the install of Snow Leopard should this be prepared? Also, I do not understand why you refer to MyHack as post-install crap when, in fact, this is precisely when it is installed. Perhaps you say this because MyHack is being installed from the Nawcom cd and not the Snow Leopard installation where it used to be housed in the Extra folder under “post-installation” after an Empire EFI install. Thanks.

  15. I don’t get this. I downloaded the .zip, unzipped it, and burned the .iso file. When I re-boot my computer, nothing happens! I just boot into Windows as always! I have the BIOS set to boot 1st from the CD, then the hard drive.
Am I supposed to already have a “Hackintosh” for this to work?? That defeats the whole purpose! How can I install OSX on my Windows PC if I already need to HAVE OSX installed???
    What am I doing wrong??
    -Chris I

    1. @ozl , done
@Chris – do you have OSX DVD ? its meant for first time installation. If you’ve already installed then get myHack or install chameleon manually
@elawrence , at this moment no. but as things progress , it will take care of dsdt patching. Again , its a work in progress , we are redefining everything

  16. Pradeesh:
Yes, I have the OSX DVD and the nawcom .iso burned to a CD (Actually a DVD – I had no CDs).
But .. how would having the OSX DVD help me if I need to insert the nawcom DVD to boot? (which, as I mentioned above just gets ignored and I boot into Windows)?
Thanks in advance for your replies.
    -Chris I

  17. I keep getting hung up on the installation screen. Everything looks good but then around 18 minutes remaining I get a “please contact someone with a photo of this screen. Looks like its pointing to a IOMemoryDescriptor ?
“panic (cpu 0 caller 0x557935): “getPhysicalSegment() out of 32b range……”

  18. I have tried the new nawcomBootCD on Asus motherboard p7p55d with intel i7 860 which worked well only thing the bench mark was half of the speed of the i7 how is that can be corrected? For those who are having problem do this after installation shut the system, unplug the power cord wait a minute then plug it again, it should work.

  19. Hi!
First of all I want to thank you for all your contributions helping people run OS-x on their PC 🙂
I tried nawcom and run into a problem, preventing me from using it. I went to the nawcom site but comments seem to be closed. And as I saw that you are cooperating with him I thought to post it here, hoping for a solution 🙂
I’ve had OS-x running on my pc for a year now or so but wanted to install it from scratch, as vanilla as possible and update to 10.6.4 in the process.
When using nawcom, it boots to the OS-selection screen; I eject the nacom disc, put in the (original) OS-x install disc; wait until it stops spinning; press F5 (it show up); I select the OS-x disc..
however, after pressing Enter the screen blanks, shows data like internal memory but then shows the following error:
EBIOS read error: Error 0x09 Block 0x233eea Sectors 0
severall times, then nothing (the DVD doesn’t spin down either)..
    – The same thing happens by the way with the iBoot CD so could it have something to do with Chameleon? –
    my config:
    Mob: Asus P5K-E WiFi
    Gfx: Palit Geforce 8800GT 512 Mb (PCI-E)
    Mem: 6Gb Kingston
Sfx: Soundblaster Audigy 2 (onboard disabled)
    Hdd: WD 160Gb (Sata)
    Dvd: LG (Sata)
As far as disks go I only attached 1 HDD (160Gb, GUID, only 2 OS-x partitions) and the DVD, both SATAs connected on the non J-Micron SATA ports. No other devices are attached.
Ofcourse I searched on internet and found some things but nothing that relates to my situation.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide 🙂

  20. I am quite new to the whole hackintosh cult…
i tried this boot CD as well as EFI and both with OSX 10.6.1 and OSX 10.6.2 however it runs and seems like its going to install and then it gets to a point where it just freezes or reboots.
i just wanted to know a few things.
    1) must it be a formated HD and if so, FAT32 or NTFS?
    2) must one use OSX 10.6.3 specifically?
    3) is there a certain amount of memory or such that you must run the setup with?
    4) tried installing Via normal boot and it just hangs but when using Verbose or ignore Cache it runs and seems to install but the just hangs or reboots so which way is it to be installed?
    my specs are
    Intel i7 920
    Gigabyte X58 extreme MB
    6gig DDR3 1600 OCZ Memory
    Multiple HD’s (Installing OSX on a 80gig)
    Nvidia GeForce 285top edition Card
Please if someone could assists it would be appreciated as i am at a loss right now.
I thank you in advance for any assistance!!!

  23. @xenit
Your hd must be formatted in mac os x format (journaled) you can do this when you are in the installer when you select the drive to install to. Instead of clicking one of the drives go to the top bar and click utilities and click the disk utility there. Just format your drive from there into the proper form and then close disk utility and select your newly formatted drive. Also select sata mode to achi in your bios to be sure(if you use a sata hd that is, it doesnt work well on ide hard drives and gives errors).
I also have a problem, i installed mac and while its running the installer or when i boot from the install cd it just runs my video card properly at full hd and graphics enabled. however after installing the myhack with graphics enabler on it boots into 1024 mode. (its a nvidia gs 7600)
I would also like to know what exactly i have to do with the postboot map and the 2 files in there. Do i run them in terminal?

  24. What a great BootCD! It works well, as I can install (and have several times) without much for problems. I’ve installed with both MBR and GUID partitions, swapped the drives on different SATA ports on the motherboard, and tried the various SATA settings in the BIOS.
However, I still haven’t been able to get the Snow Leopard install to boot from the hard drive without either (usually) getting “still waiting for root device”, or (sometimes) rebooting just short of the login screen. But I can always get into SL if I use the BootCD. And everything seems to be working pretty well once I’ve booted into OSX. I have to install one additional kext to get my ethernet controller working, but that’s been it, so far.
    Specs are:
    AM3 X2 CPU
    Biostar 880G chipset mobo
    2GB DDR3 mem
    250GB Seagate SATA HD
    Lite-On SATA DVD drive
Currently, I have a single GUID partition on the HD, AHCI is set in the BIOS, and using a 10.6.3 retail disc.
Any thoughts on what I’m missing, such as post-install patching, additional kexts, etc?

  25. Hi, Prasys and Nawcom. I can`t boot Mac os 10.6.3 retail on my chipset AMD 770. You added kext AppleATIATA in your CD? Help me please!

  26. Hey Prasys, I got Nawcom’s mod CD to load 10.6.3 on my Dell T5400 dual quad core xeon box (after trying a number of other bootloaders),…yeah!!! but I am having some post install issues. no Sleep, not sure about networking, and most importantly, can’t get it to boot from the HDD, , without Nawcom Mod CD…. any advice or suggestions?…..cheers

  27. I manage to install it once but now i don’t know why it’s Impossible to get to the setup screen on a dell T5400 : “still waiting for root device”

  28. I manage to install it once but it was not really working (no good graphic support….) so i format the drive and now i don’t know why it’s Impossible to get to the setup screen on a dell T5400 : “still waiting for root device”

  29. some news, i got installed again… but i can’t boot from the HD (still waiting for root device) so i can boot with the cd and select the hd with osx on it but still no graphic support ( as the cd seems to disable any kext…)

  30. Could anybody give me a help on installing VGA Intel GMA X3100? I’m having headaches on this. Already tried a bunch of methods and nothing. My device ID is 0x29c2. Thanks in advance.

  31. Hi!
First I want to congratulate both Prasys and Nawcom!
I can boot with modcd and reach the install, but when I select the personalize button there is no “CUSTOM OPTIONS – EXPERTS ONLY”
    Am I missing something?
Anyway I could install it with default options. What post install do you recommend?
    Thank you!

  32. Hello everyone, I am having a big… no… ENORMOUS problem here: I am trying to install Mac OS X 10.6.3 on a newly purchased 2TB RAID0 array. The problem is, quite frankly, the fact that this f&(%ing operating system, apparently, has a big problem with SATA drives being set to the RAID mode, and therefore it blocks when I try to start the setup if they are set to this mode. Of course, if I set the SATA mode to AHCI, I can enter the installation and it all works wonderfully, but I can’t install the os on my RAID array anymore.
So, as you probably realized, my question is:(and I am writing it in caps because I am desperate)
Thank you a lot for your time taken to read this. I am truly desperate as I really want to install Mac on that RAID and I’ve tried googeing it and asking on some forums but I had no success. Have a cold glass of beer on me if you can help me solve this problem. (I have also posted this on the main article regarding the launch of nawcom Mod CD)
    Happy Holidays everyone!!

  33. All right, never mind my earlier post. I managed to install mac os x on my other drive, which is a non-raid, by disabling the SATA-as-RAID feature and I am in fact typing this comment from inside mac os right now.
But I have two problems here:
    1) I need a graphics driver that would enable acceleration (I’m stuck with a res of 1024×768); the one included on the cd is apparently of no good.
    My GPU: Nvidia GeForce 9800GT
    My MB: Gigabyte EP35-DS3R
    2) I need support for that blasted raid drive, I expect getting it through a driver of some type.
Thank you kindly and in advance for your extensive help!!

  34. Hi ! I used nawcom ModCD v0.3 and Mac OS 10.6.3. DVD Retail, but the same time i have same problem , my mouse doesnt work and i cannot setup the disk utilities to continue with the instalation. My system is : MB ASUS RAMPAGE II GENE, i7 920 2,67 GHZ, NVIDIA 480 GTX,HDD SAMSUNG 500GB. Thank you in advance and maybe have a solution for my problem and will post here.

  35. HI, Pradeesh! Thanks for everyone who works (hard) for a good Hack. Same problem. My keyboard freezes (can’t type). Empire EFI for “m” series the same problem also (I experimented all EFIs). Just working well Hackboot v5 (installation ok), but there is no bootloaders working (Chamaleon or iHack – just using CD to boot). My PC is a notebook Dell Vostro 3500 – I5 560m – Memory 4GB – Nvidia 310m Hybrid. I’ve bought this machine just to have an excellent Hack. I’ve been waiting for a new release. (Brazil)

  36. Hey,
well I’ve got an AMD Athlon X2 and an ATI Radeon 4000 series so I know I the worsed hardware for this but I saw with Empire EFI that it supports the CPU but may have problems with the ATI and it does … couldn’t even load Empire EFI.
but now with nawcom it starts loading but then it gives me a kernel error message and tells me to contact someone with a photo of the message… I have the photo on my phone(soon on the computer) but anyone who can help me?
    kind regards

  37. I’m trying to install this on my Dell Studio 14z laptop, using nawcom’s BootCD and the Mac OSX 10.6.3 retail DVD. After I swap discs, all i get is a bunch of lines of code, and it seems to hang up with page after page of “disk1s3: media is not present.”
Any ideas? How long should it take to get to the Mac OS X install menu using this BootCD?

  38. Just tried again. It’s telling me right befor that “”disk1s3: media is not present.” error, SerialATAPI device reconfiguration did not complete successfully. (failedCommandInfo = 0x1)
SeerialATAPI Terminating due to unrecoverable Reser error – drive has stopped responding. (resetType = 0x0, newPowerState = 0x1, failedCommandInfo = 0x1)
    disk1s3: I/O error.
    Does this help at all?

  39. Hi,
I try to install Snow Leopard 10.6.3.
But I can’t see my hard drive on hard disk utility on mac os x installer, only my DVDROM is visible.

    Thx !

    Centrino Core2Duo T5750
    4GB RAM
    Wireless – Intel 3945ABG
Video – Mobile Intel GM965 Express Chipset
I installed using the latest ModCD v0.3.1 and Retail Snow Leopard 10.6.3 DVD.
Install went fine, but I can’t boot from my hard drive. If I boot from the ModCD it sees my HD with the OS X installed and I boot from it, but if I take the CD out I just get black screen and 4 short lines that say no boot device or something to that extent.
Thank you, any help is greatly appreciated!

  41. Hello friends,
I am new to hackintosh and despite so many doubts about the bootloader be installed on the system drive or partition in EFI, I think more interesting to be installed in the EFI partition, I believe the folder is inatcto.Alguém leopard can explain this? Has more advantages in using the EFI partition?
