NVIDIA Kexts for OSX

This is is an official driver , which I’ve patched for Hackint0sh. It was released by NVIDIA to address some issues with MacPro Late 2009 model with GeForce 2xx series graphics card. Basically what this driver does is that it gives you :-

  • Improved performance for games such as Team Fortress 2 , Starcraft II and other games (It gives a large frame boost)
  • Improves overall stability with OpenGL applications (I’ve found out that my old Rayman III game doesn’t crash anymore)

However , I’ve patched it , basically I’ve removed a script inside the installer which checks for the right Mac Model and Graphics Card. Thus allowing real mac (yes I’ve tested it with my MacBook Pro Core i5 with GeForce 330M) and as well as Hackintosh to work.
It requires MacOS X 10.6.3 and above. It works with NVIDIA GeForce 8 , GeForce 9 , GeForce 1xx series , GeForce 2xx series. It does not work with GeForce 4xx series.
There are few drawbacks. Firstly , you’ll be losing Power Management -which translates to noisy fan (Fan will stay at 100%). This is somewhat bad if you are using a laptop or if you care for a noise-free environment. Secondly , this kext has known to cause kernel panics with certain configuration.

  1. You dont have to do that , just install this. Its normal. You still need an injector/EFI Strings/NVEnabler or whatever you’re using it. It just gives you an improved driver , thats all

  2. Hi Pradeesh! Is a great pleasure talk with you.
I had a blue screen with this drivers on my Club 3D 9400 GT 1024 mb unfortunately. To get back my system, i had to boot with -x and install the 10h548 update pkg again.
    Thanks anyway.

  3. I installed on the Lifehackers build, went all right, but the fan is not at max after reebot, does it mean it didn’t work ?

  4. @Pradeesh
    Well done!!!!!
Thank you very much for your hard work!
“NVIDIA Kexts for OSX” seems working perfectly on my computer.
My computer’s hardware is as follows:
    – CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550
    – Mainboard: ASUS P5Q-E/WiFi-AP
    – VGA: Nvidia GeForce GT240 1GB; (Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT 512MB)
    – RAM: Kingmax 2 x 2GB PC2-8900
    – HDD: Seagate 320 GB
I installed SN 10.6.4, and did not need any kext for the VGA cards, but use “GraphicsEnabler = y” in com.apple.Boot.plist.
Before installing “NVIDIA Kexts for OSX”, I have used in turn with two VGA cards, but the results are very different:
    1) 512MB Nvidia GeForce 8600GT: The system operations very well.
    2) 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT240: It often gets kernel panic when booting normally, but occasionally works fine when booting with -f -v.
After installing “NVIDIA Kexts for OSX”:
    1) 512MB Nvidia GeForce 8600GT: The system could work very well. I could see nothing changed.
    2) 1GB Nvidia GeForce GT240: After restarting, I booted with -f -v and got no “kernel panic” as usual. Then I restated my machine, booted normally and it got no “kernel panic”. I tested Chess application, widget, Front Row, Neverball. All of them worked perfectly like the results when testing with my 512MB Nvidia GeForce 8600GT. I think something has been corrected by your “NVIDIA Kexts for OSX”. I tried shutting down my machine, waiting 2 mins and then starting again. It seemed working well with full functionality. I will try testing some more times and give you the results.
By the way, with your deep, extensive knowledge about osx86, I’d like you to give me a hand to solve my laptop problems with SL 10.6.4.
    My laptop’s hardware:
    ASUS F8Vr
    Chipset: Intel PM45
    Southbridge: Intel 82081M (ICH9-M)
Mainboard: Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo P8600 @2.4GHz
    RAM: Kingmax 2 x 2GB PC2-6400
VGA: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 256MB
    Detail: http://hotfile.com/dl/75023460/0fb5e6c/Laptop.rar.html
    I installed SL 10.6.4:
Firstly, I boot with EmpireEFI v.1085, then installed the Leopard 10.6.3 Retail by default.
Secondly, I upgraded to Leopard 10.6.4 and installed ‘myHack Installer v 1.0 RC 4.1? by default, then upgraded to Chameleon RC5 pre12 and made boot sector.
Finally, I added the command “GraphicsEnabler = y” in the com.apple.Boot.plist in the Extra folder, restated the computer and had seen only one resolution 1024 x 768, no translucent menu bar and dock, no Ripple effect when dragging and dropping widged.
    I had tried RadeonHD at:
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=190586, but no luck. There were some resolutions include 1280 x 800, that’s all.
Then i tried netkas’s solution at http://netkas.org/?p=372 and
    it got kernel panic.
Untill now, I have not been able to solve the VGA problems and find the kexts for Sound card.
Could you please give me some advice?
Thank you very much in advance!

  9. I have a GeForce FX 6200 256Mb AGP will this driver work do you think ? i was using NV40 Titan but it decided to stop working and instead of a logon screen i get a blue screen it starts in safe mode and i have re installed it but it still wont work ??

  10. Install the driver but I am not getting the the card to work, still getting 1024*768 no ripples in dashboard.
    AMD 64X 5200
    8600GT 256MB
    ASUS m2n32sli 590
    4GB RAM

  11. Used NAWCOM mod 3.1 for install with retail snow leopard 10.6.3 and updated to 10.6.5 no problems I even have the built in mob wireless rtl8189 working.
I tried using EFI string and added to com.boot and I can get the card to respond and display all resolutions and additional display ports but the mouse does not function well very jittery, and the display updating is so slow it’s unusable. I am willing to purchase a different graphics card if it will solve the problem any suggestion.
    Please help!!!!.

  12. Tried on Lion for my 8600M GT that was working with only DSDT edit, but QE/CI acceleration was only working with the 32-bit kernel. When acceleration would fail w/ the 64-bit kernel the login screen would come up on my laptop display instead of the external and once logged in the bar at the top would not be transparent.
After installing this driver the login comes up on the external first whether using the 32-bit or 64-bit kernel. After typing my password OS X now goes straight back to the login screen after trying to transition to the desktop, and only after installing this driver. Fortunately I made a disk image before installing and will revert. If someone is booting the 64-bit kernel with the 8600M GT please advise how you did it. I’ve had trouble with the 7xxx series and 64-bit but had thought the 8xxx would be fine.

  13. ❓ PLEASE HELP ME ❓
I installed this driver package on my hackintosh 10.6.6. I have an Nvidia GT 240 1GB. After install, I booted up into it and I had a white, empty dock and a black desktop. I was not able to see anything. Telling me how to rid of these would be much appreciated but I would rather want to get it working. Please help me.

  14. EDIT:
Nevermind I uninstalled it and now I got it working by using EFISTUDIO 1.1 and using the Nvidia 9800GT 1024MB efi string and writing to com.apple.boot.plist. Works perfectly now with QE/CI. All 1024MB are recognized.
