Speeding up YouTube Videos

youtube-logoLately we all do know that sometimes YouTube video takes ages to buffer , as it could be the fact that its being throttled by your ISP , you’re having a slow connection or simply it could mean that you’re doing other stuff or you’re bandwidth is being shared by other application or reasons. Whatever your reasons can be , fear not there is a way of speeding up YouTube videos.

Well there is no catch at all , I mean you don’t have to use proxy , register for some VPN Service or registry tweak/mess with system settings or download adware/spyware or even pay for programs. Its simply done by tweaking the video settings in YouTube itself. So how is it done , you ask
Well , Its simple. First you need to get a YouTube video. For this tutorial , I’ll be using the rick roll video. You could use any youtube video for this tutorial. Its up to you

Oh God
Oh God- Did I rick roll you ? (Click to enlarge the picture)

All you have to do is add “&fmt=18” [Without Quotes] at the back of the video file name so that it becomes. You can take a look at the picture below or just click on the link below to see the difference in terms of buffering the video itself

OMG it loads even faster now (no not a joke) - Well its about time for me to enjoy the video 😛 (Click to enlarge the image)

Okay , well there is a catch here. The catch is that what does the tweak does is that it reduces the Video quality and Audio quality of the file by compressing it further , so that you are able to buffer it (think of it as a low quality video).  Well that’s about it folks. So if you want to get the best quality , I wouldn’t recommend you to enable this command , but if you just want to watch a video over at YouTube without waiting a long time for it to buffer , then I would personally recommend you to go with this path. Its very simple , at the back of the video file name simply add “&fmt=18” without quotes so that you’ll get the lower quality version
Well , at least its free and I am not promoting some software or devices whereby you will have to pay in order for you to download and stuff. Do feel free to drop a comment if it did the trick or not
Credit goes to this guy here for discovering this hack in the first place !
