Ha, I guess Its been ages since I’ve spoken regarding my part time job. Besides being uh you know what (read my profile if you want to know whats my occupation or you should add me to Facebook to see my 10001 faces and colours of me – Okay I am promoting myself I admit). Today , I would just like to say on my part time job. I am the co-founder of Demetrox Sever , along with Chemitrox, Suresh, Espeon, Emocore, Cinderella and Exia. Few people , started up a WoW Server. Big Deal ! – Yeah right. At first it wasn’t easy as there were other private servers around in the asian region and to be more precise – Malaysian Region. Mainly when people play in private servers , they choose a server that has more players , less bugs and friendly GMs. Those are their criteria when choosing a private server. Read on to know more on my thoughts and comments on private servers in general
Okay let me get back to my story. Zoku left his old private server as he was a GM , and so do I. Its though to work under someone who expects you to do all their stuff and take care of their server. So we teamed up and decided to run our own private server without all those funny stuff. Yeah , its iligeal to run but lets face it – how many of us can fork out money to pay for the game. Retail is fun but at the same time its time and money consuming. An Average Student or an average folk would not  want to pay that much money on just gaming services. Lets face it , prices of things are going up (Hint : Its called inflation). So people (average joes) wouldn’t want to pay for Blizzard. But then they are making money from other people and other things , in fact they will continue to make money. That isn’t the case here. Uh okay , let me get back. We started off pretty simple. People at first were impressed and wanted to give us full support (ex players from another server and couple of over friends). Once we went public , we recived both positive and negative feedback. The negatives ones were people trying to stop us by saying that the server would be a failure as we weren’t able to get that much of players. At most , there were like 5-10 players. Sooner or later , the server slowly started to grow when we offered transfers from other servers whereby players can get to transfer their character from another server and play. This has attracted couple of other players who are fed up with the management of their old servers. Slowly by slowly the population started to pick up. At first there were the locals but then one fine day , a couple of Singaporean guys came in to test out the server and bam they did fell in love with it . Oh yeah , they said they will do their part to promote the server. This is where the booming period started for our server , people slowly started to come in and slowly our population increased. Now we have about 110-120 players (peak) and around 60-80 players (off-peak) which is great for a new server that has just started in December ’07 . That is the breif server history. I was an administrator when the server started till few months back whereby I had to step down due to commitments in real life. Currently , I am a Game Master there and an advisor/Public Relations Manager. I do not get paid but I really love enjoy meeting new people and learning new stuff. There is something new to learn from our local folks and International folks
Nevertheless , do check out the server – http://www.demetrox.com . It supports the latest World of Warcraft 2.4.3 Burning Crusade , so if you are looking for some MMORPG excitement , I would recommend you to go for it !
Lastly , I understand that private server isn’t the way to go. So whenever possible , do support the developers of the game as well by buying the original copies of World of Warcraft. I hate piracy myself ! – This is why I am not using pirated version of server 2003 for my server !. This was intended to promote demetrox and at the same time to share my thoughts and the challenges that I’ve faced in starting a private server !
